"Jim Pierce, Roy Nichols and The UFO"
(Jim Pierce wrote this to me the other day. Jim and Roy Nichols, along with Jackie Burns,
were members of the Wynn Stewart band, a legend in country music.):
"Hi Jack!
Forty years ago I was standing on a balcony on the third floor of an apartment house
overlooking a private school yard full of huge trees. There was probably 40 or 50 acres
of land that belonged to the school. Roy Nichols was sitting in the living room watching
TV. We were in Long Beach California and we were playing at the Foothill Club before we
joined the Wynn Stewart band.
I looked up in the sky and saw a flying saucer! I couldn't believe my eyes! There it was
slowly moving straight down into the trees in the school yard. At the time I saw it, it
was about a half a mile from the ground and I stood only a few blocks from where it
appeared to land. I called to Roy "Come here quick, there's a flying saucer outside". He
said "oh sure" HE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME! "Roy, Roy, I called I'm NOT kidding please come
here NOW"! He didn't move. "It's landing and you're going to miss it. PLEASE"!!
Roy got up VERY slowly. By the time he got there, the UFO had disappeared behind the
trees. He gave me a disbelieving look. "@*#&" he said, and sat down! I called the police
to report the incident. I SAW it!! I had to call. Roy sat back down and watched me pick
up the phone.
The dispatcher told me they had receive hundreds of calls but thanked me anyway.
I WASN'T the only one who saw it!
I went downstairs and I heard sirens everywhere. The national guard sent trucks and
personal and surrounded the school. There were fire trucks and police cars and all hell
was breaking loose. I got as close as I could to the line of police and tried to see
through the trees. It was too dark and there was too many trees. I saw nothing but trees!
By this time people were starting to move in to get a better look. I spotted a friend of
mine who was a reporter for the Los Angeles Times. I told him what I saw and he handed
me his camera and said to follow him. We went through the police barricade and into the
trees. He had his press pass and everyone thought I was his cameraman. We looked
everywhere and so did a lot of other personnel, police and military alike. Nothing!!
We finally gave up and I went back to the apartment to tell Roy. He said "That proves
you didn't see anything because there WASN'T anything TO see". He never DID believe me.
But I know. I know what I saw!
Jim Pierce"
